         What is Ghadar Movement?

  * The movement launched by non-resident Indians, especially those living on the west coast of Canada and America, for the independence of the country was called Ghadar Movement because of the newspaper named Ghadar.


        Why Ghadar Movement?

  * Racial treatment of non-resident Indians.

  * Non-cooperative approach towards the problems of overseas Indians by the British Government and the British Indian Government.

  * An effort to raise voice against the government in an organized manner from Vancouver city of Canada was made by G.D.  Revolutionaries like Kumar, Taraknath Das, Ramnath Puri, Bhagwan Singh, etc. raised it.

  * During the First World War, American cities like Portland and San Francisco became the center of revolutionary activities. In 1913, an organization called Hind Organization was established in Portland and in November 1913, this organization started publishing a newspaper named Ghadar.

  * The revolutionaries of Ghadar saw the First World War as an opportunity and agitated the non-speaking Indians.


         Activities of Ghadar Movement:-

  * Through the newspaper Ghadar, he demonstrated anti-British sentiment and tried to unite people for revolution.

  * Inciting Indian service to revolt.

  * Establishing contact with Indian revolutionaries.

  * Initially the plan of revolution made under the leadership of Lal Hardayad could not be successful, then in February 1915 the plan of revolution was made under the leadership of Rash Behari Bose.  And this too was not successful.  Ghadar revolutionaries also established contact with the German government for cooperation.

  * The spirit of the revolutionaries was also seen on the Indian soldiers in Singapore, about 700 soldiers refused to fire on the revolutionaries.

  * Formation of a temporary government in Afghanistan under the leadership of King Mahendra Pratap.

  *The Prime Minister was Barkatullah.




        Contribution of Ghadar Movement:-

  * Made the question of India's independence a topic of discussion at the international level.

  * Spread of national consciousness and unity among non-resident Indians.

  * Exposed the exploitative character of the British government.

  * Even after the Ghadar movement, revolutionary activities continued abroad and during the Second World War, there was a strong expression in the form of soldiers of Azad Hind.

  * Ghadar revolutionaries contributed to the spread of socialist, democratic and secular ideas in India.

  * His activities inspired the revolutionary youth.
